This article explains how to create a comment box using a third party tool and embed it into a Sisense dashboard using the iFrame widget. For this example, we use a very simple 3rd party Comment Box tool, but there are many other options available if other features are needed (log ins, more advanced moderator support, etc.). We used Bawks HTML Comment Box for this article, but others like Disqus are very good as well.
Note: The comments in this example are hosted on a 3rd party site. If you require comments to be hosted internally, another script / tool may be used.
Embedding a comments box in a dashboard allows users to share comments and provides a platform for annotation and social collaboration.
Must have iFrame plugin installed. The plugin and installation instructions can be found here.
Step 1 - Set up a free HTML Comments Box Account and Copy the Embedded Script
You can sign in with an existing google account here to set up a free comments box. You may of course use another tool, butt the setup may be slightly different. Copy the script given on the page once you have signed up. There are additional options available by clicking the options tab (these include several styling and metadata options), but we will use all of the default options for this article.
Step 2 - Create a New HTML Page for your Comments Box
Copy the attached file, Comments.html into your Sisense web folder (C:\Program Files\Sisense\PrismWeb). Using a text editor like Notepad ++, open the file and locate the following line:
<!-- INSERT SCRIPT HERE -->
Replace this line with the script you copied from Step 1 and save the file.
Step 3 - Embed the Comments Box into an iFrame in a Dashboard
Open the Sisense dashboard you'd like to add the comments box to. Create a new widget and click Advanced configuration.
In the widget editor screen, click the widget type drop down and select the iFrame Widget.
On the design tab type, '/Comments.html' in the iFrame URL input box. Click Apply.
Step 4 - Resize & Move to Your Liking
You are now ready to use your new comments box!
Note 1: In order to create separate comments boxes (either for another box in the same dashboard, or another box in a different dashboard), simply copy and rename Comments.html to another name, and reference that HTML file in each new iFrame widget.
Note 2: There are several moderation features available by logging on here. These features include things like setting up email notifications for new comments, filtering of select words, deleting posts and more.
