I recently implemented a way to send emails to SiSense user groups to notify them of changes to dashboards, software updates, server maintenance, etc. and wanted to share it with the community since it is quite handy.
Simply create a dashboard with a single text widget and type in the message you would like to send out. In the Republish tool select the groups/users you want to send the message to, enable the email functionality for the user group and set the dashboard to be emailed at a certain time. When the email goes out you can then disable the email functionality.
As an example I recently used this to inform all of my users that we would be updating the software. I updated the Text widget to read:
"Hello EMC SiSense Users,
We will be upgrading the SiSense software on Tuesday March 1st from approximately 9 PM to 11 PM EST. During this time the server may be unavailable.
Thank you in advance for your patience and please contact Joseph Peters for any issues or concerns.
The MIS Team"
I then published the dashboard to the "Everyone" group and set it to send the email.
We currently hide the email notice dashboard by using the naming functionality provided in the accordion JS plugin:
This is an easy way to keep your users informed without maintaining a separate distribution list in Outlook.
