Earlier this month I had the opportunity to participate in my first Sisense Connect event, which took place in NYC on June 6, and let me tell you, it was a blast! The rain didn’t stop nearly 100 passionate Sisense users from getting together to learn, share, network, and inspire each other.
A packed agenda covering topics such as industry trends, the future of Sisense, and best practices (full agenda here), ensured that each and every attendee left the event with valuable insights. Although I highly recommend attending one of these events yourself to see it firsthand, I’ve taken a few moments to share 4 highlights from Sisense Connect NYC 2017.
- INSPIRE: Analytics Industry Trends keynote by Jen Underwood
Getting a glimpse of future industry trends is always intriguing and Jen Underwood took it to the next level with fascinating demos, videos and a glimpse into the future that is both astounding and futuristic. Jen, founder of Impact Analytix, LLC and a recognized analytics industry expert, gave a truly inspiring keynote on future advancements of BI including Bots, AI, VR, and machine learning. And as she writes in her blog, Sisense Analytics Bot is an example of using Sisense APIs in action for innovative use cases or integration.

- SHARE: Customer Case Study Panel
It was fascinating to hear how customers with different business challenges showed immediate and impactful benefits after adopting Sisense. Todd Winton, Development Manager at CTSI and a long time Sisense community member, talked about how Sisense helped his customers grow their business. He shared that Sisense’s ability to deploy with limited IT resources, excellent support and user community helped CTSI-Global to realize the potential of the data they had. At the event, I asked Todd how the community helps him to achieve his BI goals and his answer was simple: “Feedback and information from users, in addition to that of Sisense employees. If there is something I am trying to do, someone in the community has either already done it or is happy to collaborate with us to reach our goals”

- LEARN: Predictive Analytics with R and Build Better Dashboards
An important part of the event was the Workshop and Best Practices Roundtables broken down by technical and business users.
Nir Regev, Sisense Senior Data Scientist, led the Predictive Analytics and R workshop, unraveling the possibilities of using R in your data models.

Shruti Panicker, Business Intelligence Consultant at Sisense, led the “Build a Better Dashboard” workshop where she covered best practices and design principles to keep in mind while designing dashboards.
I spoke with Shruthi after the workshop and asked her to share her thoughts about the session. “It was great interacting with our clients and working with them one on one to build better dashboards through this session. I not only had the opportunity to answer specific questions that pertained to the client’s use case, but also showcased many of the resources we have online, including the articles, webinars and plugins that are available on our community and product pages like ‘Convey your Message at a Glance’ or the ‘Dashboard Design’ Overview.”

- NETWORK: People, food, and cocktails
The breaks between the sessions were a great opportunity to meet attendees in person and hear their Sisense stories first hand. The conversations ranged from adoption techniques to deep dive coding discussions, and it was great to learn the many ways our customers leverage Sisense to achieve strategic goals.
It was especially nice to meet some of the community members in person. Shout out to Olivia Zou, Brian Bontrager, Todd Winton and others who I’ve met there!
