Excel like Freeze Panes plugin

Has anyone developed a plugin that will mimic Excel's Freeze Pane functionality?  We have a long row of data and would like to keep the first few columns on the screen while we pan right to show additional columns.

  I am looking for this too!
  This is really useful if I can freeze the few widgets on top while scrolling down on other widgets.
